BREAKING Edinburgh avenue on lockdown as police, ambulance and fireplace reply to incident

A UK street is on lockdown this afternoon as police, ambulance and fire have swarmed in at the scene. There are reports that a person “is under a tram”. An image from the scene shows at least two ambulances, four fire engines and a police vehicle on Constitution Street in Edinburgh.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Constitution Street is closed at the junction with Queen Charlotte Street in Edinburgh following a report of a concern for person received around 1.35pm on Friday, 7 November. Emergency services are in attendance and the public are advised to avoid the area.”

Police have confirmed the incident is related to ‘concern for a person’. Edinburgh Trams added: “Trams are part route between Airport and Balfour street due to an incident at the shore tram stop. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

An air ambulance was spotted flying overhead and has now landed on Leith Links. An eye witness said: “Someone’s underneath the tram and they’re trying to get them out. I’ve been here for about 15 minutes,” reports Edinburgh News. “I’ve lived in the area all my life and there’s been tram incidents but I’ve never seen anything like this.”

A woman who was on the tram said it was heading for the city centre before it stopped. She said: “It came to an abrupt stop then we were all told to get off the tram.”
