M6 visitors chaos as ‘multi-vehicle’ crash shuts three lanes close to busy motorway junction

Emergency services are on the scene of the crash on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 21 and 21A for the M62 – drivers have been told to expect delays of 20 minutes

A multi-vehicle smash resulted in three lanes being shut near a major motorway junction just beyond Greater Manchester’s borders. Emergency crews raced to the scene of the pile-up on the northbound stretch of the M6 between junction 21 and 21A for the M62.

Motorists were warned to brace for 20-minute holdups when approaching the incident near Warrington this morning (November 8). National Highways said that lanes 1, 2 and 3 were blocked on the M6’s northbound carriageway following the crash.

Traffic was crawling with tailbacks stretching all the way to junction 20 Lymm Interchange, traffic monitoring service Inrix reports. In a post on X, National Highways: North-West wrote: “Lanes 1,2 and 3 are CLOSED on the #M6 northbound between J21 #Warrington and J21A #M62 due to a multi vehicle collision.

“Emergency services are on scene. There are currently delays of 20 mins on approach to the incident.”

The chaos comes as Greater Manchester drivers are already battling an M62 closure today. All lanes have now reopened on the M6. However, there may still be some delays.
