Teenager combating for all times after being shot as police declare ‘main incident’

The victim, aged 19, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition – he had been shot outside a property on the street

A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering gunshot wounds to his leg and back.

The teen was injured in the shooting in Huyton, Merseyside, on Friday evening (November 7). He has since been declared to be in a “critical condition” by officers.

Emergency crews — including Merseyside Police — rushed to Manley Road at approximately 8.50pm after receiving reports that a man had been shot outside a property on the street. The victim received medical treatment at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where his condition remains critical.

A police cordon has been established on Manley Road whilst officers conduct door-to-door inquiries and examine CCTV footage. Photos from the scene show officers in hazmat suits gathering forensic evidence as they piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

Detectives are also making urgent appeals for witnesses and any dashcam footage from the vicinity around the time of the shooting, according to the Liverpool Echo. Chief Inspector Andy Hughes said: “We are still in the very early stages of an investigation and we are determined to find the person or people responsible.

“A young man is currently in hospital with significant injuries and I’m sure the community will be utterly appalled at what has happened this evening. I want to reassure local residents in the area, as well as the wider Merseyside, that we are taking this incident extremely seriously and we are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime.

“This is a residential area and there will be people who may have witnessed the incident, and I urge those people to tell us what you know. Also, if you have CCTV or dashcam footage, please let us know if you captured anything.

“Even the smallest of details could prove vital in our investigation. Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups and I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward as a matter of urgency.”

Helicopters were later seen flying around the Huyton area as officers tried to track down those responsible for the attack. Police investigations continued well into the night, with as many as eight cars at the scene.

It comes just two days after a woman was found dead in the city centre after police were alerted to an incident by the North West Ambulance Service. The 18-year-old was declared dead at the scene, but her death is now being treated as not suspicious.

Four police vehicles were stationed at Marybone student accommodation on Wednesday (November 5) as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A report has now been prepared for the local Coroner’s Office, according to Merseyside Police.
