Where’s Tim Davie? BBC chief ‘in hiding as he plots his exit technique’ amid impartiality row

Pressure was last night mounting on BBC boss Tim Davie to break his silence as he was accused of hiding from an impartiality row.

The director-general is yet to speak out after an internal report on Monday accused him of ‘inaction’ against alleged breaches of impartiality – despite calls from critics for him to face the music.

He has not been seen since the emergence of a dossier by a former adviser to the corporation’s editorial watchdog which claimed the BBC had doctored a Donald Trump speech, been biased in its coverage of the Gaza conflict and suppressed stories on transgender issues.

One source said they believed the former Pepsi marketing boss, 58, at the helm for five years despite numerous scandals, was ‘on manoeuvres’, adding: ‘Tim is asking all kinds of people for meetings. It’s the classic behaviour of someone anticipating a move away from their job.’

Last night White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said British taxpayers were being ‘forced to foot the bill for a Leftist propaganda machine’.

The dossier’s author Michael Prescott will give evidence to a Commons committee on Wednesday, expected to further pressure Mr Davie.

The BBC did not respond to a request for comment.
