‘He might turn out to be the most effective novice chasers’ – Jason Heavey’s Monday ideas

The Daily Star Chief Tipster has been in very good form and believes a young horse trained by Sam Thomas is the best bet of the day on Monday at Carlisle

STEEL ALLY (2.15, nap) can be the punters’ pal at Carlisle on Monday.

His trainer Sam Thomas is in fantastic form with five of his last nine runners winning.

That 56 per cent strike rate should improve when his seven-year-old Steel Ally makes his chasing debut in the Weatherbys NHStallions.co.uk Graduation Chase.

Thomas believes the son of Doctor Dino will make a better chaser than hurdler – and he was very useful over the smaller obstacles.

His victory in a class two handicap at Haydock last autumn is rock solid form.

Unexpected Party, who will be fitter for a pipe opener at Cheltenham, will provide stern opposition but Thomas knows how to get one ready to win first time out.

THE WIDDOW MAKER (1.15, nb) ran a fine race at Stratford on his seasonal return and can hit the target for Joe Tizzard – another in-form stable.

He is very well handicapped on his best form in the Unibet Veterans’ Chase

Dan Skelton has hit form with 15 winners in the past fortnight and can strike with the highly rated youngsters MYDADDYPADD Y (12.15) and REAL QUARTZ (12.45) while the free-going NORTHERN AIR (3.23) is an interesting chasing debutant and could be chucked in at the weights.

DISCO ANNIE (2.48) appears to save her her best for Carlisle with form figures of 112 in her last three efforts at the Cumbrian track.

She reverts to hurdling after hitting the deck over fences at Hexham and is handicapped to win.

At Kempton I fancy SAINT ANAPOLINO (2.30, trb) in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle which has attracted just seven runners.

The six-year-old was a good sixth on his return at Cheltenham and should be cherry ripe for this easier contest.

TURNDLIGHTSDOWNLOW (2.00) should supplement his recent easy course success in the JCB Handicap Hurdle despite a 10lb rise in the weights while expensive recruit KASINO DES MOTTES (1.30) showed enough promise on his debut to suggest he can win the 2m5f novice hurdle.
