Gerwyn Price bluntly dismisses Premier League Darts suggestion after Beau Greaves declare

Gerwyn Price has had his say on Beau Greaves getting a place in the Premier League

Gerwyn Price has branded talk of Beau Greaves getting a Premier League place as a ‘joke’.

Greaves is one of the sport’s rising stars and took two former world champions to final-leg deciders at the Grand Slam of Darts. So impressed by what he has seen from the 21-year-old from Doncaster, Raymond van Barneveld tipped the current women’s world No. 1 to become the first ever female player to take part in the Premier League.

But Price has dismissed the chat of Greaves getting a place in the prestigious competition next year, saying: “I think that’s a joke, but yeah, I don’t know.” Speaking about his own chances of featuring in the line-up, ‘The Iceman’ said: “I think I’m one of the best players this season.

“If you look at the way I played last year [where he reached the semi-finals], it was absolutely terrible. I’m no. 1 on the ProTour, no. 1 on the Players Championship list.

“If you look at money earned, I’m in the top five, top six. I’ve had a great year. I mean, you look at everybody else, don’t question me, question them.”

Picking up 86 consecutive wins and 13 titles in a row, Greaves has already dominated the Women’s Series in 2025. And when asked about Van Barneveld’s comments, she said: “Obviously I’ve watched all these players growing up and so it’s nice [to get compliments from some of the top players].

“I can’t imagine I would get into the Premier League unless I did have a crazy run [at the Worlds]. But, I mean, I wouldn’t say no.

“It’s maybe a little bit much for me. But it’d make it a bit exciting, wouldn’t it?

“People are going on about the Premier League and it being a bit flat and boring. But I always end up watching it every week, so it’d be amazing to play in it.

“I don’t think I’d deserve it considering of all the other players that could get in, but it’s nice that people say good things about me – I think it’s dead sweet.”

Greaves also recently revealed that she is out to prove Michael van Gerwen wrong after he claimed back in 2017 that he did not believe a woman would ever be able to ‘compete with the top men players’.

“To be honest I don’t read much,” she said. “I said that a few years ago as well. We’ve both said the same thing! Some of the men don’t like playing women. Some don’t care.

“Since getting my Tour Card I’ve had a bit more belief. I know I can beat anybody. I’ve got the game for it, it’s just doing it at the right time.

“I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself, I’m just going to enjoy it. Who else would you rather play?”
