Luke Littler tops Grand Slam of Darts group and strikes one step nearer to defending title

Luke Littler has put out a statement performance as he breezed past Daryl Gurney to top his Grand Slam of Darts group to move into the knockout rounds

Luke Littler already had his knockout round clash booked before he walked out in Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.

The Nuke, 18, has now won his last 10 Grand Slam of Darts games on the spin as he looks to defend his crown. Daryl Gurney was the latest man to try and stand to Littler, only to be blown away.

Superchin was already out of the competition – and looking for something to shout about before heading home. However, from the first leg it was clear he wasn’t up to Littler’s scoring power.

Littler, who wasn’t even at his brilliant best, kept Gurney at arms length with a D16 checkout and then D10 to break the Northern Irishman.

The showman in Littler was soon out, as he went for bull with Gurney not even on a finish – he would move into a 3-0 lead the next time he towed the oche.

Gurney was able to wrestle a leg off of Littler, but the Nuke was too busy trying to reel in the biggest finish of them all to care.

Littler was setting up the 170, which he has been trying to land all tournament, but came up short once again. He would take out 88 to move into a 4-1 lead.

Once again, he set up the big fish, but he failed to hit the bull and took out 25 on D10 to beat Gurney.

“That’s taken Luke Littler 15 minutes to beat Daryl Gurney, excellent from Littler, sheer quality,” one fan posted.

“Littler absolutely taking the p*** here,” a second joked. While a third shared: “The people who are moaning on here about Littler going questionable routes are exactly the reason why he’s doing it hahaha!”
