CNN’s Harry Enten Names ‘Huge’ Reason For Chuck Schumer’s ‘Terrible’ Polling With Dems

After moderate Democrats agreed to reopen the government without securing an extension on health care subsidies, lawmakers such as Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) declared that Schumer — who voted against the deal — was “no longer effective” while Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) called for “new leadership,” too.

Schumer has vowed to “keep fighting” ahead of a vote — as promised to Democrats by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) — on extending the soon-to-expire subsidies.

Enten argued that a reason behind the figure is because Democrats want a “fighter.”

He later pointed to CNN/SSRS polling that shows 69% of Democrats (and those who lean toward the party) last month indicated that Democrats in Congress did “too little” to oppose President Donald Trump, a notable increase from 2017 (46%).

“That, of course, is a big, big, big, huge criticism of Chuck Schumer. And that is why he is underwater,” Enten added.

Enten — when asked about talk of Schumer being challenged for his Senate seat in 2028 — highlighted how Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has “got a real leg up” on the competition in terms of her net favorable rating among New York Democrats (+46 percentage points compared to Schumer at +16).
