Shepton Mallet Carnival stops immediately after incident as individuals warned ‘stand again’

Floats were weaving their way through the town tonight before onlookers said the procession came to an abrupt standstill – people were urged to make way for an ambulance

Shepton Mallet Carnival has reportedly ground to a halt this evening. Floats were weaving their way through the town tonight (Wednesday, November 12) in an illuminated spectacle when onlookers report the procession came to an abrupt standstill for roughly half an hour.

Officers on motorcycles were spotted navigating past a stationary float that had been spearheading the parade.

Crowds were apparently urged to step aside to make way for an ambulance racing through.

One punter who had turned out for the festivities revealed: “Current status at the front of the procession is that the first cart is stopped, everything is backed up along Charlton Rd and lots of people are running back and forth”, reports Somerset Live.

Another witness confirmed there had been an incident along the route. SomersetLive understands there have been reports someone has fallen from one of the carts in the parade.
