Ricky Gervais has brought back classic character David Brent for a new documentary on sitcoms. The stand-up comic has returned to The Office, bringing back the annoying paper firm boss in a programme on comedies with Joe Wilkinson and David Earl.
The pair co-host the Chatabix podcast and they invited Ricky onto their new docu series as they revisted a host of brilliant sitcoms, from Only Fools and Horses to Ever Decreasing Circles.
Joe, who starred recently on Celebrity Traitors, said: “David has worked with Ricky for years, and I have as well. So he agreed to come on the show.
“And yeah he starts like being Brent. So we are just sat in a room like this and then he starts playing one of the songs as Brent… and we were like ‘okay, this should get us a second series!”
He said revisiting old much-loved sitcoms made them emotional.
Joe said: “Myself and David, we’ve written together for years and we’ve both been lucky enough to be in sitcoms and we’re obsessed with them.
“It also weirdly turned out to be very emotional as well. It really sent us back to why we fell in love with them.
“There was a lot going on under the surface, we realised. Like David suddenly remembered his dad laughing at Fawlty Towers when he was little .
“So all these emotions came up.”
