Gangster Marc Webley’s killer unmasked after prison dared enemies to come back for him

Grant Hunter has pleaded guilty to murdering Marc Webley in a New Year’s execution – his girlfriend, Emma McVie, has also admitted attempting to destroy evidence

Police have revealed the identity of the killer who shot dead gangster Marc Webley in a vicious New Year’s Eve execution. Grant Hunter admitted to murdering the 38-year-old at Edinburgh’s High Court today (November 13). Hunter’s partner, Emma McVie, has also been identified by officers after she admitted attempting to destroy evidence.

A third individual, Gary Robertson, 22, confessed to attempting to pervert the course of justice in connection with the incident. Webley, 38, was gunned down at the Anchor Inn in Granton, Edinburgh, moments before the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve in 2023, reports the Daily Record.

The criminal was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his wounds on January 1, 2024. Hunter had been scheduled to face trial for the slaying at Edinburgh’s High Court but entered a guilty plea to Webley’s murder on Wednesday.

Hunter also admitted to the attempted murder of Stewart Pearson during the same incident. Emma McVie, 27, and Gary Robertson 22, also appeared before Edinburgh’s High Court.

The charges against Hunter stated the murder was “aggravated by a connection with serious organised crime”.

In the lead-up to his death, Webley – who had been acquitted of two attempted murders in 2023 – took to social media to dare his enemies to come for him.

It’s believed that during this period, he confided in close associates that he was anticipating an attack and had been armed wherever he travelled.

In the brazen video posted on social media, he declared: “You could come to the pub. I’ll only be here a couple of hours. Surely gies you enough time. You’ve had all day to make an effort.

“Youse talk a good fight so when you’re lying in bed or talking s**** or whatever it is you’re daein, saying ‘we’re gonna get him, we’re gonna get him’, well, here I f****** am. Stone cold sober.

“Come and get it. I don’t think you’ll come. You’ve not got the f****** b****. Fire guns, fire windaes. Ha Ha. I’ve never missed. Enjoy your night guys. I will. Come and get it.

“We put the city on the map. Youse deal with the cops. Ha ha ha.”

The court was told that several rounds were discharged at Webley before one struck him, with another bullet also wounding Pearson.

Sentencing has been postponed until next month. Hunter, McVie and Robertson have been held on remand.

Lottery winner Jane Park, who had a brief romance with Webley, paid her respects to the criminal following his death.

In her Instagram tribute, she shared footage of herself and Webley having a drink and beaming at the camera.
