Jamie Redknapp sues small eco-surf store over declare Sandbanks title is just too just like his posh recycled clothes model

Jamie Redknapp‘s posh clothing brand, which makes luxury outdoor gear out of recycled plastic bottles, is suing a local eco-surf shop with a similar name.

Jamie is the co-founder of Sandbanks, a high-end label flogging expensive jackets and jumpers, and is named after the exclusive area of Poole, which is home to his father Harry and other celebs.

On November 6, parent company, Saint Witz Ltd, began legal proceedings against Sandbanks Style Ltd and its owner Jordan Belcher.

The business is in the same area and sells kayaks and paddleboards, according to its website.

The case is being heard at the Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court.

It’s under a ‘part 7 claim – multi track’, where ‘litigants may claim up to £500,000 in compensation for infringement of their rights’, according to judiciary docs.

The warring pair aren’t only fighting in the High Court, but tussling over a trademark application filed by Sandbanks Style in April this year.

They applied to trademark their own ‘Sandbanks’ logo for beachwear, paddleboards and kayaks – but this has been fiercely opposed by Saint Witz, who’ve filed their defence.

In September 2018, Saint Witz trademarked the word ‘Sandbanks’ under the classifications of bags and clothing – and, two years later, under eyewear.

Last month, it also registered the name and logo ‘SB Sandbanks’.

Jamie’s brand Sandbanks is proud of its eco roots and being a sustainable premium outdoor brand, with jackets costing up to £1,000 and jumpers over £200. Their goods are made from recycled plastics found in the ocean and landfill.

Yet Sandbanks Style can also claim to be equally environmentally friendly.

The business was set up Belcher’s father Andy, who said on LinkedIn when he passed the business onto son Jordan: ‘So far we made and sold over 30,000 Paddleboards and more recently 2000+ drop-stitch kayaks.

‘For 8 years my whole salary went to a variety of charities, we planted about 32,000 trees to be super carbon negative and in addition to our retail customers, were the choice of over 200 rental and school businesses, who between them gave over 100,000 lessons and provided millions of hire sessions.’

Sandbanks Style was also trading first. The business was incorporated in October 2014, whereas Saint Witz started up in September 2018.
