BREAKING Massive explosion at fireworks manufacturing unit in Pakistan as 4 killed in blast with others injured

At least four people have been killed in a massive explosion at a fireworks factory. The blast in southern Pakistan has injured at least 11 others, police and hospital officials said.

Footage shared on social media shows plumes of smoke filling the sky above a collapsed building where firecrackers were being made in Hyderabad city in Sindh province. The dead and injured were taken to hospital after being found by rescuers, said city police chief Adeel Chandio.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been identified, however, the Sindh government said an investigation would determine whether the factory had permission to manufacture fireworks.

Rescue teams, police and Pakistan Rangers rushed to the scene, where search and relief operations are ongoing. The death toll is feared to rise as emergency workers continue to sift through the wreckage.

Local authorities said the initial fire inside the building quickly intensified, triggering a chain reaction that led to the massive blast.

Meanwhile, a massive explosion next to a major airport has seen at least 15 people rushed to hospital, with flights cancelled and delayed amid the horror apocalyptic scenes.

The blast has ripped through an industrial park near Argentina’s main international airport, with flights to and from the capital Buenos Aires delayed and cancelled on Friday night. At least 15 people hospitalised in the horror.

Videos of the scene reveal a massive roaring blaze which then sends up a large cloud of thick black smoke. The plant is then engulfed in a massive fireball which creates a mushroom cloud in the sky. Fire alarms begin to ring while witnesses run for cover. The fire then continues to roar and get bigger.

Local media reports the powerful blast took place around 9pm with several smaller ones happening after. Windows and ceilings of buildings were rocked and smashed within a three-mile radius of the explosion.

Gaston Granados, mayor of Ezeiza, said: “The explosions and fire breaking out in the different factories are huge. We are trying to control [the fire] and extinguish it but have not been able to so far.”

Many flights at Ministro Pistarini International Airport were delayed and unable to land.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown. Mayor Granados said one of the industrial park’s plants was chemical and the other a plastics.

A huge team of firefighters struggled to contain the blaze. Local fire chief Fabian Garcia said: “It is a complex fire. It will be a long fire.”
