Donald Trump re-ignites feud with London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan in unhinged TV rant

The US President claimed there are places in London where the police “refuse to go” and where “sharia law” has supplanted British law, neither of which is true.

Donald Trump has reignited his feud with London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan in an unhinged TV rant.

Trump gave an interview to GB News, during which he made a string of false claims – entirely unchallenged.

Asked about Sir Sadiq, Trump said: “He’s a terrible, terrible mayor. As an example, I was a high ranking officer, sort of always, or President. Even as a civilian, I was a respected person. He treated me very badly. I said who is that guy? He’s a terrible mayor, and look at the crime in London.”

Violent crime is falling in London. There was a 6% reduction in violence against the person recorded by the metropolitan police in the 12 months to March 2025. Londoners are statistically less likely to be a victim of violent crime than across the rest of England & Wales .

Trump went on: “My mother loved London, she loved that city…but it’s a different London than you have today. Today you have people being stabbed in the ass. Or worse. But no it’s crazy. Your mayor is a disaster. I don’t even know him. If you put him there I wouldn’t even know who he was. I can tell you he’s a disaster. He’s a nasty person. And he’s letting crime go.”

He went on to repeat claims widely spread by far-right and white supremacist groups in the UK that there are “no-go” areas for the police in London, and areas where so-called Sharia Law has supplanted British law. Neither of these claims is true.

Yet Trump said: “You have areas in London and you have this in Paris too, where the police don’t even want to go. You have sharia law where they don’t even obey the laws of your country or France or other countries and you have much worse conditions than even that.”

Trump went on to claim his speech at the UN General Assembly in September had been deliberately sabotaged by the UN, “purposely” turning off his teleprompter and stopping his escalator.

He also claimed, again, that the speakers in the main hall at the UN had been switched off for his speech so that nobody would hear it. The main hall at the UN does not routinely amplify speeches from the stage, because most people in the room – delegates from around the world who speak many languages – listen to translations on earpieces attached to every seat.
