Man Utd’s prime two switch targets revealed as Premier League stars head shortlist
Manchester United are in the market for new midfielders as Ruben Amorim looks to rebuild his squad with their top two transfer targets now clear
Manchester United are eyeing up two major midfield signings for the next summer transfer window – with Elliot Anderson topping their wish list.
United’s gaffer Ruben Amorim has identified midfield reinforcements as his top priority in his squad overhaul, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba also being a key target. Despite Brighton fending off United’s late interest in the 21-year-old last summer, the Red Devils remain interested, and the Cameroon international is also keen on a move to Old Trafford.
However, United have also set their sights on Nottingham Forest’s England international Anderson. His versatility to play both as a defensive midfielder and an attacking one means they’re prepared to go all out to secure his signature.
Anderson, 23, has been turning heads with his stellar performances for both club and country, and Forest know they have a fight on their hands to retain him.
However, he’s likely to come with a smaller price tag than the £100m-rated Baleba, making him an attractive potential acquisition.
United veteran Casemiro’s contract is winding down, and he would need to accept a wage cut to stay, reports the Mirror.
The Red Devils have also shown interest in Conor Gallagher, should he be available for loan from Atletico Madrid in January, as he aims to secure a spot in the World Cup squad.
After splashing out on forwards Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko last summer, United are now ready to invest heavily in their midfield as part of their long-term rebuilding strategy under Amorim.
After a summer of heavy investment, Amorim’s team had a dismal start to the season, languishing in 14th place at the end of September.
However, they’ve since bounced back, going five games without defeat.
Following a late draw against Tottenham in their last match, United now find themselves in seventh place in the league table.
The Red Devils will return to action next weekend when they host Everton at Old Trafford.
