Woman, 21, discovered lifeless in boat yard pictured as household pay tribute to ‘stunning angel’

Corrina Baker’s heartbroken family have paid tribute to her after she was found dead in a boat yard on Saturday, sparking a murder probe. She was last seen on Thursday. A man, 29, has been arrested

A young woman feared to have been murdered onboard a boat has been described as a “beautiful angel” by her heartbroken family. Corinna Baker, 21, was found dead onboard a vessel moored at a former boat-building yard in the Welsh coastal town of Cardigan.

Her body was found in Netpool Boat Yard at around 12.35pm on Saturday afternoon. She was last seen before going to the boat yard on Thursday night, locals said.

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of her murder. He remains in police custody to be quizzed by detectives, who have appealed for anyone around the area who may have seen something suspicious to come forward.

Her sister Caitlyn said in a touching tribute: “I can’t believe I have to write this post. I’d give anything not to post this, for it to not be true… For it to be a cruel joke.. But I’m so sorry to say my baby sister Corinna Rose has suddenly gained her wings this morning at 21.”

She added: “Heaven has the most beautiful, funny, stubborn angel entering the gates.”

Locals say fun-loving Corinna went out on Thursday with friends but never returned home. A witness said a boat was covered in black tarpaulin to be taken away by police for examination.

There are a series of former fishermen’s cottages around the boatyard site which closed more than 20 years ago. Some of the boats in the yard are occupied. The boatyard sits in the mouth of the River Teifi estuary and is a favourite of anglers and visitors.

Shocked locals said her family ran a pub in the close knit town, which has a population of around 4,000. One woman living nearby said: “She was such a sweet girl, she really was. Our thoughts are with her family.” Another said: “That poor family will be in bits. She was a sweetheart and lovely.”

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys police said: “There continues to be an increased Police presence in Cardigan, following the discovery of a body of a woman in Netpool Boat Yard, Cardigan at approx. 12.35pm yesterday afternoon (Saturday, November 15).

“One man, aged 29 has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“Police continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and are particularly interested in speaking with anybody who may have been at the location, or may have seen anyone at the location, from around 9pm on Thursday 13 November.

“Anyone with any information that could assist us with our investigation are asked to get in touch.”
