Heartbreaking particulars emerge after 5 younger individuals killed in Co Louth crash horror

Devastating details are starting to surface about the five young mates who perished in a two-vehicle road traffic crash in Co. Louth at the weekend.

Chloe McGee, 23, Shay Duffy, 21, Alan McCluskey, 23, Dylan Commins, 23, and Chloe Hipson, 21, tragically died in the early hours of Saturday morning when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in smashed into a Toyota Land Cruiser on the L3168.

A sixth person, a male, who was also in the Golf during the collision survived with serious but non-life threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital. The two occupants of the Land Cruiser were also hospitalised following the crash, but neither sustained life threatening injuries.

One of the victims, Chloe McGee, was a school teacher from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, reports the Irish Mirror.

Chloe had recently landed a permanent position teaching at the Ó Fiaich Institute of Further Education in Dundalk.

“I was speaking with Chloe on Friday,” Ó Fiaich principal, Padraig McGovern told Morning Ireland on Monday.

“She was full of fun and she was full of achievement and success and and and looking forward to the weekend and that within 24 hours changed, changed drastically.”

Mr McGovern confirmed Chloe, who had been with the Ó Fiaich Institute for three years, had recently landed a permanent teaching position there. “Chloe had got a permanent job and she was celebrating that,” he lamented.

“She loved her job. Chloe was three years with us and she had got her permanent contract and that was a big thing for Chloe.

“She was very keen on her job. She was very much a part, she became very much a part of the fabric of our school. And, both students and staff, she loved to help her students, loved to go the extra mile, was very good at her subject, and was also the sort of girl that was involved in everything, that all sorts of staff activities, any sort of new projects, anything that we were looking at to develop she was there and willing to take part.”
