Met Office yellow climate warnings for snow and ice in full as chilly snap strikes
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice and snow as parts of the UK are set to be battered by a cold blast over the next 15 hours as temperatures plummet
The Met Office has rolled out several yellow weather warnings for ice and snow as Britain braces for a brutal cold snap.
Yellow weather warnings for ice are now active across north and north east Scotland, encompassing Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Highland. These warnings remain in force from 7pm on Monday through to 10am on Tuesday.
A distinct yellow warning for snow has been put in place for much of Scotland, running from 3am Tuesday until 6pm the same day, with the Met Office forecasting up to 5cm of snow. An additional yellow warning for ice covers portions of north east England and north west England, where temperatures are expected to plummet below freezing.
The warnings affect areas including Durham, Northumberland, Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
The Met Office’s outlook states: “A cold week ahead with some snow, frost and ice. Some showers in the far north and near to North Sea coasts, these wintry in northern Scotland. Elsewhere mostly dry with lots of sunshine, after a frosty start for many. Cold, especially in the east where it will be breezy.”, reports the Mirror.
“[Monday evening will see] showers easing to leave a mostly dry night with clear spells. A widespread frost, with icy patches. However, turning breezy, and less cold in the northwest, with rain and snow.”
Tuesday’s prediction reads: “A bright, frosty start for many. However, rain in the northwest extending southeast to all parts through the day, with some snow, especially in the north. Breezy and feeling cold.”
