Woman saved £4,500 designer bag – however Chanel purchase ends in heartbreak

Sarah Palmyra had been visiting London with her friends when they decided to head to the famous designer department store and buy their dream Chanel bags

A woman was left heartbroken after splashing out £4,500 ($6,000) on her dream Chanel handbag, only to find it was riddled with pen marks when she unwrapped it at home.

Sarah Palmyra had been exploring London with her mates when they decided to pop into the legendary Harrods flagship store to browse the Chanel boutique. The luxury brand occupies a prime spot on the first floor of the department store, flogging handbags worth thousands of pounds.

In the viral TikTok clip, she revealed: “We decided to purchase matching vanity Chanel bags. This was a pretty big deal because this was my second ever designer purchase for myself. This was ruined by the sales associate who was rude to us.”

Sarah alleges the sales assistant “kept acting like we were going to run out and steal the bags”, describing his conduct as “strange”.

However, the group of friends opted to buy the bags anyway, and whilst they were being gift-wrapped and boxed up in the back, Sarah voiced her concerns to the store manager about their treatment, reports the Mirror.

Upon returning to their hotel room, Sarah made a crushing discovery about her brand new purchase.

In a video she recorded at the time, she revealed: “I opened my Chanel bag. It has pen marks on it. There’s pulled threads. It was wrapped but it was kind of just thrown in. It doesn’t have any plastic wrap on the mirror.”

Whilst her friend’s bag arrived in pristine condition, she insisted hers bore no resemblance to the same bag she had examined in the shop. “I was surprised, horrified,” she added.

“I had a plane to catch the next day so I immediately headed back to the Harrods store.”

However, upon returning to the shop before boarding her flight back to the US, she was stunned to find they wouldn’t provide a refund or replacement.

In footage she covertly recorded at the time, the shop assistant can be heard stating: “At the moment I can not do anything with the bag before running an investigation. I won’t be able to resell it like that.”

Sarah said the incident “ruined the entire experience” of buying her second ever luxury handbag.

Following her return home, Harrods issued a response after their inquiry. In an email, they informed Sarah: “I can confirm that the item handled by our associates had no contact with any sort of ink either on its way to the wrapping table or during the packing. Unfortunately no refund or exchange are available at this time.”

Astonished, Sarah declined to accept delivery of the damaged handbag and enlisted her bank’s help, securing a refund.

She added: “Thankfully it worked in my favour because I had video evidence of the damaged bag, but I never got an apology.”

Harrods and Chanel have been approached for comment.
