Andrew ignores invitation to talk to US Congress about his hyperlinks to billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein as deadline passes

Andrew has ignored an invitation to speak to US Congress about his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein

The former prince was given until today to respond to a request to testify before the House Oversight Committee after calls to ‘come clean’ about his dealings with the billionaire financier.

The letter to Andrew was signed by 16 members of Congress, with Suhas Subramanyam saying earlier this week that the former Duke of York is ‘hiding from us’.

The Democratic member warned Andrew that ‘if he is hoping that the story will just go away by ignoring us and being silent, he will be sorely disappointed’.

Democrat Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who sits on the Oversight Committee, called on Andrew to ‘come clean’ at the time the request was sent two weeks ago.

Speaking on BBC Newsnight, he said: ‘Come clean. Come before the US Congress, voluntarily testify.’

The House is unable to subpoena Andrew as he is a foreign national.

The oversight committee in the House of Representatives asked Andrew to sit for a deposition as part of its investigation into Epstein and how the government handled his case.

The committee’s letter said it had identified ‘financial records containing notations such as ‘massage for Andrew’ that raise serious questions’.

They had called for him to say what he knew about the actions of the convicted sex trafficker.

Andrew, who was stripped of his prince and Duke of York titles earlier this month, strenuously denies any wrongdoing.

He had previously agreed to stop using his titles but had expected to remain a prince and retain his dukedom, ahead of the publication of the memoirs of the late Virginia Giuffre, who had accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager. He denies the accusation.

Mr Subramanyam previously claimed Epstein may have trafficked more women to Andrew

Talking to the Mail on Sunday, the Congressman said: ‘We have reason to believe that there are others who may have been trafficked to Andrew.

‘Many of the survivors came to Capitol Hill and we spoke to them. They’ve been so courageous and gave us very valuable information as far as where to look.’

It comes after the MoS revealed last month that Epstein introduced Andrew to a second woman who had been sexually abused for years by the financier, who killed himself in jail in 2019.

The woman was introduced to Andrew by email on August 11, 2010, and may have met him in London that month. Epstein wrote: ‘I have a friend who I think you might enjoy having dinner with.’

Andrew replied: ‘Would be delighted to see her. Please give her my contact details.’

Epstein was found dead in 2019 in his New York prison cell in what a coroner ruled was a suicide. He was being held on charges of sex trafficking.

The Daily Mail has contacted Andrew’s representatives for comment.
