Blow for Donald Trump as outdated ally Marjorie Taylor Greene RESIGNS after public feud

A politician who was a loyal supporter of Donald Trump has sensationally told she quitting from Congress.

Marjorie Taylor Greene said she didn’t want her congressional district “to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for” in a 10-minute video explaining her decision to end her time in January. The 51-year-old woman had been a close ally to Mr Trump but, in her video, said she refuses to be the US President’s “battered wife”.

In her clip, Ms Greene said: “I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.

“And in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me. It’s all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.”

Ms Greene, who in March lashed out at Sky News journalist and told her to “go back to your country,” was a huge MAGA rep for several years, and supported Mr Trump during his election campaign last year.

But she has had a public fallout with th world leader in recent months, as the congresswoman criticised him for his stance on files related to Jeffrey Epstein, along with foreign policy and health care. The tension culminated in the video today, though Ms Greene did not clarify why she believes Mr Trump will, indeed, face an impeachment trial.

Mr Trump had branded the mmother of three a “traitor” and “wacky” and said he would endorse a challenger against her when she ran for reelection next year. However, Ms Greene has now confirmed her last day in office will be January 5, 2026. The White House did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Friday night.

Ms Greene’s decision to step down in the face of his opposition has put her on the same track as many of the more moderate establishment Republicans before her who went crosswise with Mr Trump. They, too, had embraced some of the politician’s unapologetic political style and flamboyance.

Mr Trump has already faced scrutiny this week after an eventful meeting with Zohran Mamdani, the mayor-elect of the Socialist Republic of New York City, who flew to Washington weeks after his election win.
