Girl, 13, is arrested for homicide after girl in her 50s is discovered lifeless in home following stories of bust-up

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 50s was found dead in her house in Swindon. 

Police arrived at Baydon Close in Moredon on Friday night, after reports of disorder inside a house, to find a woman not breathing. 

She was declared dead at the scene and the teenager was detained by officers following the incident. 

There were no other reported injuries and police said the victim’s next of kin have been informed. 

The property has been cordoned off while enquiries are carried out to establish what happened.  

Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: ‘This is a serious incident in which a woman has sadly died. 

‘We have set up a cordon at the address while an investigation is carried out. 

‘I can confirm that we have arrested a teenage girl in connection with this incident and we are not looking for anyone else.’

‘We would encourage people not to speculate on the circumstances around this incident’, he added. 

‘We appreciate the concern that this may cause the local community. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak to an officer.’ 

The area remained cordoned off on Saturday night as investigations continued.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: ‘A 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman in Baydon Close, Moredon, on Friday, November 21.

‘Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area while we continue carrying out our inquiries into the woman’s death.’
