Co-op set to open 11 new shops this week – is there one in your city?
The Co-op is set to open 11 stores in just one week as part of its record-breaking expansion – and we have the full list of locations
Co-op is gearing up to launch a record number of stores in a single week. The supermarket chain, which already boasts over 2,300 outlets across the UK, has recently unveiled plans for an unprecedented expansion.
As part of its investment strategy, Co-op will open 11 new stores across the UK within the next week, contributing to the more than 200 new and revamped stores planned for 2024/25. The imminent openings include a mix of brand-new stores, franchise-operated outlets, and renovated shops reopening their doors.
These form part of the 50 stores confirmed for launch during November and December, with over 200 having opened in 2024/25. Co-op emphasised that future confidence in long-term investment across the sector hinges on the Government delivering fair business rates reform.
In the recent budget announcement, it was revealed that over 750,000 retail, hospitality and leisure properties would benefit from permanently lower business rates taxes, amounting to £900 million. A £4.3 billion business rates support package was also announced, capping business rates bill increases for sectors most impacted by revaluations from April 2026.
Among the record-breaking store openings, one shop will hold the distinction of being the first permanent retail outlet in the new Brent Cross Town development. Co-op’s latest franchise store will open in Frampton Cotterell, Bristol, while refurbished stores are set to reopen nationwide, from Somerset to Inverness and the Scottish Highlands, the retailer confirmed, reports the Express.
Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, declared: “We are focussed on creating local stores which are more than just a shop – they are a hub locally that contribute to local life and meet the needs of communities, conveniently.
“We’re investing in stores and communities right across the UK because we believe in the future of the high street – creating local jobs and backing British farmers and suppliers.”
The convenience chain maintains its pledge to support British farming, ensuring all fresh and frozen meat remains 100% British – including products found in pies, ready meals and sandwiches.
