• Arne Slot is facing fresh scrutiny after a series of nine losses in 12 fixtures across competitions. This run has left Liverpool 12th in the Premier League and fighting for qualification through to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
• It’s understood that Slot does not face an immediate threat to his job, but more defeats could see pressure mount. The Reds boss was defiant after their 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven during the week, however, and vowed to “keep fighting”.
• Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been touted as one person who could replace Slot if the Reds hierarchy make the decision to move on. It’s been claimed that Klopp may be approached about returning until the end of the season, at which point, a permanent appointment would be made.
• Klopp is currently serving as the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull. When asked about the possibility of never returning to management, Klopp gave a thought-provoking response. He said: “I’m 58. If I started again at 65, everybody will say, ‘You said you’ll never do it again!’ Er, sorry, I thought 100% [when I said it]! That is what I think now. I don’t miss anything [about being a manager].”
• According to oddsmakers, other possible contenders to replace Slot at Liverpool include Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth head Andoni Iraola.
