Glam PE instructor sexted 13-year-old scholar with ‘inappropriate pictures’

A female gym teacher has admitted she sent “inappropriate” text messages and a photo to a 13-year-old student, according to police in Florida. Yezmar Angeanis Ramos-Figueroa, a 22-year-old physical education teacher at Central Pointe Christian Academy, was arrested Wednesday, said the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The police were tipped off about the “obscene material” by the child’s mum in mid-October.
The teacher admitted to investigators that she had texted and sent a photo to the student, who police said attended the middle school virtually. Detectives have asked any other minors who might have had inappropriate contact with her to get in touch with the sheriff’s office.
Ramos-Figueroa from Kissimmee faces two felony charges, for distributing obscene material to a minor and transmitting harmful material to a minor.
After meeting with detectives and being interviewed, she was transported and booked into the Osceola County jail, where she is now being held on a $10,000 bond, jail records show.
The Central Pointe Christian Academy, a private K-12 school, did not immediately respond to the New York Post’s request for comment.
The arrest comes after a 34-year-old maths teacher at Washington Middle School in Aurora, USA, was accused of having sex with one of her students.
Neighbours claimed a now-17-year-old boy was frequently seen visiting Jessica Bergmann’s home. Court documents reportedly state that the student would frequently go to the 34-year-old teacher’s home, “occasionally staying overnight, where the two would engage in sexual intercourse”.
A 30-year-old former substitute teacher was also sentenced to 10 years in prison this month after she was convicted of paying middle school students for sex as well as providing them with drugs and alcohol.
Figures on how often relationships spring up between teachers and students are hard to find. Sexual relations between teachers and any pupil under 18 are illegal in the UK since the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000, even if the relationship is consensual. Before the act, the only issue was the age of consent: 16.
Between 1991 and 2008, a total of 129 teachers were prosecuted for relationships with pupils in Britain. Reaching unions say such incidents are rare. Very few cases go to court and even fewer result in convictions.
But a YouGov survey of 2,200 adults in 2007 found that one in six knew of someone who had had an “intimate relationship” with a teacher while at school.
Victims may never complain or mightn’t see themselves as “victims” until years later – if ever.
