McDonald’s followers fuming after chain reduces standard menu merchandise in ‘shrinkflation’ row
McDonald’s is facing fury online after its ‘Big Tasty’ switched to a smaller bun and drew mockery from burger fans as the ‘Small Tasty’
McDonald’s was blasted yesterday after reducing the size of its Big Tasty burger in the latest ‘shrinkflation’ row, reports the Sun. The burger is back in a quarter-pounder bun, rather than its usual bigger bap, and enraged diners insisted that it also comes with less cheese and tomato, the newspaper reports.
While the ‘Big Tasty’ is popular when it pops up on the McDonald’s promotional menu, its downsized return was greeted with anger and the mocking moniker ‘Small Tasty’. But the price has also shrunk to £6.29 from £7.19 “to acknowledge the size reduction”, the fast food company told the tabloid.
Punters also have the option to buy a double Big Tasty meal with two patties, setting them back a whopping £9.49. But furious Kevin Cox from Aylesbury told The Sun: “We are being conned; it’s a disappointment almost as big as Rachel Reeves’ budget.
“It’s been officially confirmed on posters issued by McDonald’s which confirm the burger is now made with smaller quarter-pounder buns, rather than the bigger baps when they were last on the menu in July.”
After a visit to McDonald’s with his missus he fumed: “Today’s experience was an utter disappointment and heartbreak – we have purchased our last ever Big Tasty. And I fear you have lost the custom of us and many others.
“I implore you to hold those responsible for this travesty accountable, and return to the public the Big Tasty as it has always been, not this excuse for a burger.”
Posts on social media include a video of a diner munching a Big Tasty with the caption “McDonald’s thought we wouldn’t notice”.
One wrote: “Had to buy two to get that Big Tasty feeling. Give us back our burger! This won’t end well for you McDonald’s.” An other posted: “McDonald’s what on earth is this? I didn’t order a Small Tasty, I ordered a Big Tasty…”
The angry response comes right after the chain dropped its popular Fish Fingers Happy Meal, which a source told The Sun wasn’t selling enough to stay on the menu.
McDonald’s has meanwhile revealed its festive menu, available since Wednesday. The 14 items include a festive collaboration with Dr Seuss’s The Grinch.
Diners can choose from The Grinch Big Mac Meal (£9.09), Mischief McFlurry (from £1.89), Frozen Grinch Lemonade (£3.19), Grumble Pie (£2.39), McShaker Fries (£2.19) and The Grinch 9 McNuggets Meal (£9.09).
The new Grinch Meals have been compared to an adult’s Happy Meal, completed with a pair of Grinch x McDonald’s mismatched socks.
