Horror as lady ‘sexually assaulted’ in automobile close to cemetery as cops make arrest

Police are appealing for witnesses after an alleged sexual assault on a woman.

The victim reported the attack, which is believed to have taken place near the industrial premises at the end of Cemetery Road, adjacent to Wigan Cemetery, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Sunday, November 2. It’s understood that the assault occurred in a blue car, with the woman now receiving support from specialist officers.

A man has been arrested in relation to the alleged assault but has since been released on bail as police continue their investigations. Detective Constable Alex Hunter, of Wigan CID, sought to reassure the local community, stating: “I understand the concern that this will raise within the local community, but I can reassure residents that this was an isolated incident with no other related reports, and that we are investigating this crime with all resources that are available to us.”

Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Cemetery Road and Wigan Cemetery on November 2, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, to contact them quoting log 1475-04/11/2025.

It comes after police launched an appeal for assistance following an alleged rape and robbery of a man in a town centre assault. Detectives have issued CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak to regarding reports of sexual assault and theft in Crawley.

Sussex Police stated: “We received a report that a man aged in his 30s had been attacked at an address in the High Street on 15 October in the early hours. The suspect also stole his watch and cash before making off.”

Specially trained officers are providing support to the victim. Detective Inspector Becki Buckley commented: “We are continuing to make extensive enquiries in this case and are keen to trace this man. If you know who he is or have any information about him, please contact us quoting serial 119 of 15/10.
