- Russian President Vladimir Putin recently addressed claims about achieving human immortality during an interview with India Today. He stated that although eternal life is reserved for God, he firmly believes that human life expectancy can be significantly prolonged.
- Putin is confident that science and public health improvements can extend human longevity, stating he is “100% sure” this is possible. He cited India’s historical data, pointing out the country’s average life expectancy has risen dramatically from 31 to approximately 70 years.
- The Russian leader used dramatic drops in mortality rates as further evidence of this progress, mentioning infant mortality has decreased fourfold over time. These improvements show how sustained advances in healthcare systems have dramatically changed modern societies.
- The recent discussion was spurred by a previously reported “hot-mic” conversation between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. During that September exchange, Putin reportedly suggested that biotechnology advancements could make eternal life achievable.
- The interview also saw Mr Putin criticise the Group of Seven (G7) nations, stating he hardly understands why the group is considered “great” or “big.” He took a jab at the UK, comparing its economy unfavourably to India’s ranking in purchasing power.
- Putin argued that whilst many European countries are moving towards a recession, nations outside of the traditional Western alliance are experiencing a surge in growth.
