A body believed to be that of a 73-year-old British woman has been found near a motorway in Spain after a massive search operation – it is understood she left her home in pjs and flip-flops

A body, believed to be that of a missing British woman has been discovered concealed under foliage near a motorway in southern Spain. An extensive air and land search was initiated for 73-year-old Geraldine Ann after she disappeared from her home in , near Granada, on September 17.

It’s reported that she left her house late at night in pyjamas and flip-flops to feed some cats following an argument with her husband, who officially reported her missing the next day.

Police sources stated this morning (December 10) that they are awaiting definitive DNA test results, but confirmed that all signs indicate the deceased woman is Geraldine.

Chirivel Town Hall released a statement saying: “We profoundly regret to have to inform you that a body has been found by the A-92 motorway thought be that of our neighbour Geraldine, pending official confirmation from the authorities.”

Drones were scrambled in the search for the missing Brit, who resided in a hamlet named Contador, part of the municipality of Chirivel. Chirivel mayor Jose Torregrosa Mota made an appeal shortly after the pensioner vanished, stating: “She suffered from senile dementia and the night she went missing she’d apparently had a small argument with her husband and left home.”

He also expressed gratitude towards the Civil Guard and local police from both Chirivel and the neighbouring municipality of Cullar, where Geraldine’s body was eventually found, just over a mile from her home, as he announced that sniffer dogs would be deployed. A specialist mountain rescue Civil G.

A unit known as the GREIM was involved in the operation. Volunteers, including fellow British expats, are believed to have joined the search for the missing pensioner, whose disappearance was widely publicised on social media and by a Spanish missing persons association called SOS Desaparecidos.

A month after Geraldine’s disappearance, her local town issued another appeal stating: “Although the advanced control room is no longer operative, the search goes on. We call on everyone, especially farmers and sports enthusiasts to keep their eyes peeled.”

Police stated today that they aren’t treating the death as suspicious at this stage.

In October, the body of a British man who had been missing for nearly a month was discovered on the Costa Blanca. Marc Tulloch Hewson, 63, a University of Gloucester graduate originally from Wantage, Oxfordshire, was last seen around September 20 in Torrevieja, south of Alicante.

His body was found in a wooded area near the Torrevieja Salt Lake where the Civil Guard and local volunteers had spent several weeks conducting coordinated searches.

On September 20, the body of 65 year old British man Andrew Wade, who went missing from his Costa del Sol home in Marbella on August 15, was found near Estepona during a police search. Three days later, British holidaymaker Josh Rogers, from Bloxwich near Walsall in the West Midlands, was found dead in woodland in the Costa Brava resort of Lloret de Mar after going missing from his hotel.
