Inside Conor McGregor’s lavish marriage ceremony as star marries Dee Devlin in secret Vatican ceremony
UFC star Conor McGregor has married long-time partner Dee Devlin in an intimate Vatican City ceremony, nearly two decades after the couple first met in Dublin
UFC sensation Conor McGregor has wed his long-term partner Dee Devlin in a hush-hush ceremony held in Vatican City.
The pair exchanged vows in the stunning Chiesa di Santo Stefano degli Abissini on Friday afternoon. McGregor’s security team ensured that the public was kept at bay, with locals prohibited from snapping photos as Dee made her entrance.
Reports suggest that the church was adorned with thousands of white roses and the couple made their entrance through an archway. A quartet provided the musical backdrop while a 10-member choir added to the intimate atmosphere of the ceremony.
Weddings in the Vatican are a rarity, typically reserved for specific situations and necessitating special arrangements with authorities. It is believed that high-ranking Vatican officials had reservations about making the church available to the ex-dual-weight UFC champion.
However, after years of intermittent planning, the couple have finally said their “I dos”, almost two decades after they first met. The duo initially crossed paths in 2008 in a Dublin nightclub where Dee was employed, reports the Mirror.
At that time, McGregor was an aspiring mixed martial artist, and Devlin has been by his side supporting him every step of the way since then.
Last year, McGregor was found guilty by a jury in a civil trial at Dublin’s High Court of assaulting a woman at a Dublin hotel in 2018. The Irish fighter refuted the allegations, insisting that he had consensual sex with Nikita Hand, but the jury ruled in her favour.
McGregor was ordered to cough up more than £200,000 in damages and approximately 1.3 million euros (£1.1 million) in legal fees. More recently, he had his challenge against the ruling thrown out by the Supreme Court, after they determined he’d received a fair trial.
Just months following the court case, McGregor was snapped snogging a mystery blonde on a Florida shoreline. The Irish fighter was caught enjoying a jet ski excursion before being photographed getting cosy with a brunette who wasn’t his partner on a Fort Lauderdale beach.
Reports from The Sun suggested McGregor seemed to be lapping up the attention from female holidaymakers.
Devlin was swift to respond after the beach incident by reposting content from a fan page on Instagram that stated: “Happy Birthday to the person who always keeps Dee entertained and makes her smile.”
This was followed by a collection of snaps showing her alongside McGregor. The pair have remained virtually joined at the hip since they first crossed paths.
During a frank interview with RTE back in 2017, the MMA icon was pressed about walking down the aisle with Devlin, prompting him to reply: “We just dropped a bloody bomb on a christening for the young boy. Let me chill for a minute, give me time. I’m still only 29.”
Last year, he disclosed his intentions to wed Devlin in the near future. “My lady is my long-time lady,” he said. “We are set to get married soon, we are just trying to find a location. I am ready to go; we are just trying to get a location.”
The couple share four children. Their firstborn, Conor Jack McGregor Jr. , arrived in May 2017. Their daughter, Croia, came into the world in January 2019. In May 2021, they celebrated the arrival of their second son, Rían, and their youngest boy, Mack, was born in November 2023.
