Controversial darts star Gerwyn Price exhibits off his new, ripped physique after dramatic physique transformation which noticed him lose three stone

Gerwyn Price has given fans an insight into his extraordinary weight loss ahead of his return to Alexandra Palace on Tuesday night.

The Welshman, 40, revealed a couple of months ago that he had shredded a remarkable three stone in a bid to improve his performance in the oche.

The dramatic weight loss has however brought Price, who’s enjoyed an impressive season thus far, criticism from certain parts with some claiming he slimmed down too quickly.

Opening up about the backlash ahead of his clash with Czech Republican star Adam Gawlas this evening, the Iceman said: ‘I’m not strict in what I eat but I try and eat healthily at the right times.

‘I try and not eat at the wrong times. I still eat what I want, but just less of it. If I want to have something that’s not so healthy, then I have it earlier in the day rather than late at night.

‘So you don’t go to bed on it. It can have a different effect on your body.’

Revealing what inspired him to make a change, Price added: ‘I’ve seen videos on my daughter’s phone or on the apps, even 12-18 months ago. At the time you wouldn’t think it, I didn’t think it, and my wife was like. “Oh no, no you’re fine” – because I was just like, I need to get back in the gym.

‘And then you look back and you’re like, yeah, I was holding a couple of pounds. Now, when you lose a bit of weight, people can be like, he looks too thin and this that and other.

‘You can’t win can you? But at the end of the day, it’s not about what anybody else thinks. As long as you’re comfortable and you feel good in yourself, which I do, then I’m okay.

‘When I started I was around 16-and-a-half stone, which is about 104kg, and I am down to like 85kg now – so I’ve lost 20 kilos. Almost three stone.’

It comes just a couple of months after Price’s darts rival Vincent van der Voort raised concerns about his weight loss during an appearance on Dutch podcast Darts Draait Door.

He said: ‘I thought it was a kid in his shirt. There’s nothing left of him. You can’t really comment when someone’s overweight, so let’s be respectful when someone’s underweight too – but he’s lost a huge amount.

‘He used to have a lot of muscle – he was massive,’ he said. ‘Now he looks like a kid!

‘Pretty soon he’ll be getting beaten up by Bradley Brooks. He used to be so broad, always in the gym. But he’s gone too far now. He really should put some weight back on – this isn’t good.’

‘It’s not that I’m worried about him – for all I care, he can lose even more – but it’s meant as friendly advice. I’d tell him to eat a bit more. He owns a fish and chip shop, so that shouldn’t be a problem!’

Price took to social media to issue a response, sharing a before and after photo of him shirtless on Instagram.

He added as a caption ‘Concerned about my weight loss? Well don’t be, I feel and look better than ever.’

It was on the same month as his spat with Van der Voorn that Price made headlines once again as he became the first darts star to publicly back reform.

The 40-year-old urged supporters in his South Wales constituency to vote for the party over Plaid Cymru ahead of local elections, writing on X: ‘Don’t just sit back and wait for the result, make a difference and vote Reform UK Wales.’

However Nigel Farage’s party were ultimately beaten in the vote, with the Welsh party taking 47 per cent and Reform 36 percentage points.

If he reaches the quarter-finals stage of the World Darts Championship, South Wales-born Price looks set to face world No 1 Luke Littler.
