Dramatic footage reveals second cops arrest Nick Reiner at busy LA intersection hours after bloody homicide of his mother and father

Dramatic new footage shows the moment cops swooped on Nick Reiner and arrested him for the brutal murders of his Hollywood legend father Rob Reiner and mother Michele.

Video exclusively obtained by the Daily Mail shows how police cars with flashing lights descended on a busy intersection in downtown Los Angeles about 15 miles from the Reiner family’s $13.5million home in Brentwood.

Nick was seen walking slowly down the road before raising his arms in surrender as he was circled by cops, the surveillance tape from a nearby service station shows.

The 32-year-old has now been formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and could face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. Prosecutors said the death penalty is still on the table.

LAPD said he was tracked down thanks to ‘good, solid police work’, with arrest logs showing he was taken in around six hours after 911 was first called Sunday afternoon.

He was taken into custody ‘without issue’, with no indication he was going to resist or flee, before being moved to a police station for questioning.

A witness earlier told the Daily Mail how they saw five unmarked police cars surround Nick, who appeared to remain calm as armed homicide officers and US Marshals approached and slammed him to the ground.

‘He didn’t see them coming,’ bystander Kevin Cheatham, 34, told the Daily Mail, adding that Nick appeared to remain ‘cool’ and calm.

Cheatham said he was standing across the street at the intersection of Exposition Boulevard and Vermont Avenue on Sunday when he saw a ‘normal looking guy’ wearing a red backpack, jacket, beanie and blue jeans walking by himself.

He said he noticed the man strolling across the sidewalk alone when cops arrived, and kept watching while a K9 police unit arrived at the scene 30 minutes later.

It is unclear whether Nick took the metro or a taxi to the area from the Pierside Hotel in Santa Monica, where staff reportedly discovered a shower ‘full of blood’, blood all over the bed and the windows blacked out with bedsheets.

But Cheatham claims Nick had been on the move, ‘going westbound on Exposition on foot’ when police pulled up on him.

‘I’m assuming they caught him surprised. He wasn’t attacked, he was approached. He was minding his own business,’ the witness said.

‘When he came to the corner, that’s when I started watching him. He looked cool, he wasn’t bothering anyone. He seemed like a regular person, he didn’t seem out of the ordinary.’

The spot where Nick was apprehended is a busy intersection near the USC campus and Exposition park, an area which is usually bustling with students and traffic from the nearby metro station.

Cheatham described his surprise at how calm Nick remained during the arrest, saying he didn’t seem like someone who was ‘belligerent, loud or disturbing the peace.’

‘When he got approached, I was surprised. Normally when people get approached like that there is an incident,’ Cheatham said, completely unaware at the time of the allegations against Nick.

Cheatham said he wasn’t aware that Rob Reiner and his wife were allegedly murdered and was shocked to hear that the man he saw arrested was both their son and the prime suspect.

‘It’s shocking for an artist out there to lose their life – it’s a huge impact,’ he said of Reiner.

Nick, the famous actor’s younger son and the second of his three children, was quickly named as a suspect in the brutal murder of his Hollywood legend father and photographer mother.

The couple’s 27-year-old daughter Romy is understood to have made the horrifying discovery of their bodies, and reportedly told cops to track down her ‘dangerous’ brother.

The Reiners died some time between Saturday evening – after leaving Conan O’Brien’s holiday party, which they had attended with Nick – and around 3.30pm on Sunday, when Romy reportedly called 911.

It is understood that the couple were found dead in their bed.

‘He could have done it not long after they all went home [from O’Brien’s holiday party] – meaning he went there and slit their throats in the middle of the night,’ a source claimed to the Daily Mail. ‘They were in bed when that happened.’

The Los Angeles Police Department has not officially confirmed any details of where in the house the Reiners’ bodies were found.

TMZ first reported that Reiner, 78, had a ‘very loud argument’ with his son at O’Brien’s holiday bash on Saturday night, after which the movie director and his wife left.

One partygoer told People magazine that ‘Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, [and] kept asking people if they were famous.’

Nick had been living in the guest house of his parents’ LA mansion, a source close to him told the Daily Mail.

‘It had been like a revolving door all his adult life,’ the source claimed.

‘He would do meth and not sleep for days and then have outbursts, breaking things, punching walls. He was a ticking time bomb. His drug use was getting worse and his parents wanted him out.’

Nick is currently being held in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown LA, where his bail was initially set at $4million before being rescinded.
