Donald Trump member of the family slams his Rob Reiner put up branding President ‘vicious’ and ‘wicked’
Donald Trump has been criticised by his estranged niece Mary over his controversial social media post about the deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer
Donald Trump’s niece has branded the US President “vicious” and “depraved” over his Truth Social post following Rob Reiner’s death. Legendary Hollywood filmmaker Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead in their California home on Sunday (December 14), with their son Nick having been charged with their murder.
As tributes poured in from across the United States, the president chimed in with his own remarks – although his comments were far less compassionate than others.
Trump’s post has faced fierce criticism from detractors and supporters alike, and now his alienated niece Mary has weighed in on the issue. During a guest spot on Katie Couric’s YouTube channel, the psychologist voiced her opinion on the “grotesque” post, reports the Mirror US. Before blasting her uncle, she first praised When Harry Met Sally director Reiner for his Hollywood legacy.
Mary said of Reiner: “He has done so much for this country culturally and just as an American and Donald Trump has done nothing but make us worse, demean us, diminish us, and commit unspeakable cruelties.
“Again, not surprising, but the fact that today of all days, Donald has somehow managed to turn the spotlight back on himself, not by being an empathetic, uniting figure who is consoling us in our time of grief, but by being the most vicious, depraved, deviant person he could be. It’s a skill, that’s for sure.”
Trump’s post emerged mere hours after Rob and his wife were declared dead. The president wrote: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele.”
The president alleged the couple’s demise was “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME”.
He added: “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”.
Many followers have called for the president to remove the post, but he reinforced his stance during a White House press briefing on Monday afternoon, declaring, “I wasn’t a fan of his at all.”
Trump said at the briefing Reiner had been “a deranged person” who had wrongly accused him of being “controlled by Russia” and been “very bad for our country.”
Reiner was a lifelong Democrat and activist, and a critic of Trump, reports The Independent. He once said Trump was “the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States”.
Others have criticised Trump’s post, including late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, who called his remarks “hateful and vile” and labelled the president a “sick and irresponsible man”.
