Horror on River Nile as vacationer dies after two ships crash with ‘violent’ influence
Denise Ruggeri, 47, was pronounced dead after cruise ships River Beau Rivage and Opera crashed on the River Nile near Luxor in Egypt just days before Christmas
A holidaymaker has tragically lost her life after two cruise ships collided with an ‘extremely violent’ impact on the River Nile. The River Beau Rivage is believed to have crashed into the Opera near Luxor at around 7pm on Sunday, obliterating at least four Royal cabins.
Denise Ruggeri, a 47-year-old woman from Italy, was in her cabin during the fatal collision. Ruggeri, who was on the cruise ship with her husband when the crash occurred, fell in her room and suffered a severe lung injury.
She was immediately rushed to the nearby Esna hospital, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted, reports the Express.
Passengers were around 30km from Luxor in southern Egypt when the two ships collided. According to local media, the impact of the crash was “extremely violent”.
The Egyptian River Transport Authority said the crash came after a “sharp maneuver” and a violation of navigation rules. The captain of the Royal Beau Rivage has had their license suspended, and an investigation into the incident has been launched by the prosecutor’s office.
A probe into the incident underway, with reports suggesting the Royal Beau Rivage made a sudden move which breached right-of-way rules.
Italy’s ambassador to Cairo, Agostino Palese, said: “At present there is no news of other Italians being involved; they are all believed to be safe.”
