Birmingham ‘stabbing’ in Alum Rock as man’s dying places faculty in lockdown

Following armed police swarming a street close to a primary school in Birmingham over reports of a suspected stabbing, it has been confirmed that a man in his 20s has lost his life.

West Midlands Police attended reports of a man being seriously injured at Alum Rock at around 12:06pm today (3 March). A woman was also found injured but it is not believed to be life threatening.

Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man had been arrested and remains in police custody.

West Midlands Police said: “A man has died following a stabbing in Alum Rock earlier today (3 March). We were called to Bridge Road at 12.06pm following reports a man had been seriously injured.

“We can now confirm that a man in his 20s has sadly died. A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing and remains in police custody.

“A woman also sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening or changing. A number of firearms officers – uniformed and plain clothed – attended the incident today.

“Their deployment is routine when responding to a serious incident where a weapon has been used in a public place. The incident is not being treated as terrorism related.”

Detective Superintendent James Munro from West Midlands Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this time. We believe this to be a contained incident with a man in custody.

“We are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to a number of people in the area. But would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch.

Police have confirmed an arrest has been made
