Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor dealt newest ‘blow’ as police go to Royal Lodge

The former prince has suffered a ‘real blow’ as he has reportedly been stripped of his gun licence by police meaning he is no longer able to host or attend shooting parties

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has allegedly suffered another upset as it is believed that the former prince has had his gun licence revoked. Reportedly Andrew agreed to surrender his certificate after the police visited his Royal Lodge residence in Windsor.

The ‘blow’ comes as Andrew has already been stripped of his royal title, despite continually proclaiming his innocence. The setback means the shamed prince will no longer be able to host or participate in shooting parties.

Andrew has been under scrutiny for his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, especially as more files came into the hands of the public over the weekend. The 65-year-old has faced allegations that he sexually assaulted teenager Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by Epstein.

Mountbatten denies the accusations in relation to this. In 2022, he paid millions to Ms Giuffre to settle a civil sexual assault claim.

Andrew was stripped of his royal titles in October by Charles who also evicted him from his home. The former prince will move out of the Royal Lodge to Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

A source commented that the stripping of his licence adds to Andrew’s disastrous year. They said: “It’s a real blow to him… He will be under strict supervision. It is a real blow.”

The Sun claims that Andrew regularly hosted and attending shooting parties. It is thought that Andrew agreed to surrender his licence following discussions with police.

Firearms licences undergo regular scrutiny, with authorities empowered to intervene should a certificate holder’s circumstances alter or public safety concerns arise. It is thought that firearms have not been confiscated from Andrew but just that restrictions have been put in place on their storage and accessibility.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed to The Sun: “On Wednesday November 19, firearms licensing officers attended an address in Windsor to request that a man in his 60s voluntarily surrender his firearms and shotgun certificate. The certificate was surrendered, and we will be not be commenting any further at this stage.”

Sources suggest that the Metropolitan Police, responsible for Royal and diplomatic security, dispatched officers to communicate with Andrew through a member of staff following a routine assessment.
