Man Utd information: January switch dilemma for Ruben Amorim as star offers verdict on new membership
Manchester United are weighing up January transfer decisions as Ruben Amorim looks to change the Red Devils’ fortunes next year after a nightmare 2025
Manchester United are gearing up for a pivotal period both on and off the field as the January transfer window looms large for Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils clinched a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Boxing Day, and another win against Wolves on Tuesday would wrap up a hugely challenging year on a positive note. At one point, Amorim must have questioned whether he’d see in 2026 as United’s manager, given the team’s string of early-season disasters and last season’s abysmal campaign.
However, the Portuguese coach has managed to stabilise the situation, with United appearing in better form than they were this time last year. The coming months could bring more changes at Old Trafford, with several players’ futures uncertain. As the transfer window approaches, here’s a summary of the latest United news.
Amorim’s Zirkzee conundrum
Roma have reportedly made an official bid to sign United’s misfiring striker Joshua Zirkzee.
The Italian club is said to have proposed a loan deal with a compulsory purchase clause, reports the Mirror, which could boost Amorim’s transfer war chest in the long term.
However, while it seems clear the £36.5m flop isn’t part of Amorim’s long-term plans, the coach must decide whether he’s willing to let him leave as soon as next month, especially with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Although a loan offer is believed to have been tabled, United are reportedly taking their time to consider their options before making a final decision on Zirkzee’s future.
The 24-year-old was a substitute in the match against Newcastle but struggled to make an impact as United sought to maintain their lead.
Mbeumo of Cameroon and the Ivory Coast’s Amad are set to face each other in a group fixture on Sunday, both having secured victories in their opening matches.
There’s a strong possibility that both nations could progress far in the tournament, potentially keeping them away from United duty until late January and presenting Amorim and United with a challenging dilemma.
New signing speaks out
Fresh recruit Cristian Orozco has described his move to United as the realisation of a lifelong ambition. The Colombian youngster is scheduled to join the club when he reaches 18 in July.
The Red Devils have been scouring the globe as they look to strengthen both their immediate squad and future prospects. They secured 18 year old Diego Leon from Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteno earlier this year and have now turned their attention to Orozco.
The 17-year-old midfielder represents Fortaleza CEIF in his native country and led Colombia U17s to the South American Championship final in April. The prospect recently visited Manchester and was thoroughly impressed by what he witnessed.
He said: “It went really well, to be honest. I was looking around the city. Everything was beautiful. I was able to see the facilities, the stadium. I’m truly fulfilling a childhood dream. It was a wonderful experience.
“My expectation right now is to learn English a lot. I realised it’s very important. I want to arrive, learn, and adapt as quickly as possible. That’s what’s required to demonstrate my level there, what I can do.
“I know that with my abilities, I can be key, with the strength and technique I have. I’m very young and I need to adapt.”
