Man Utd switch information: Ruben Amorim ‘desires to reverse mistake’ as replace given on course
Manchester United have been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation as Ruben Amorim looks to lift the mood at Old Trafford after their latest disappointment
Big changes are on the horizon at Manchester United as the club head into 2026 with Ruben Amorim’s underachieving squad still struggling to find any form of consistency.
The summer transfer window saw a host of new faces arrive, with Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo among those joining the ranks. But his team were booed off after an embarrassing 1-1 draw with bottom placed Wolves at home on Tuesday, as the visitors came away with only their third point of the season at Old Trafford.
It appears there’s set to be even more movement in the January window as United look to cement their place in the top six and make a return to European football next season. Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro have all been linked with exits from the club and could secure transfers in the coming weeks. Here’s all the latest news from the Red Devils.
Scott McTominay’s potential return
Caught Offside reports United are keen on welcoming Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford. The midfielder, currently with Napoli, left the club last summer in a £26m deal and has been flourishing in Italy alongside fellow United player Rasmus Hojlund.
The Scotland international, 29, played a key role in helping Antonio Conte’s side clinch the Serie A title last season, and he has since established himself as one of Europe’s top midfielders.
Napoli would naturally prefer to retain McTominay, but according to rumours, they’d be open to offers around the £60m mark, reports the Mirror.
McTominay hasn’t just been a standout player for Napoli, he also bagged the Serie A Player of the Year award thanks to his pivotal role in their championship-winning campaign.
With the potential departures of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and possibly even Bruno Fernandes in 2026, bringing McTominay back into the fold would be a savvy move, as his Old Trafford exit has looked like a big mistake.
Top target
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is Manchester United’s top target for midfield, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claim the former Newcastle man is top of the Red Devils’ wishlist, but a January exit is unlikely to be sanctioned.
However, with a summer move the expected outcome, United are wary 29-year-old Anderson will not be short of suitors.
The England international has proven to be a shrewd acquisition for Forest since his £35m arrival in July 2024.
Ruben Neves ‘call’
Manchester United are among the clubs to have enquired about Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, according to reports.
In an update from talkSPORT, it has been claimed the Saudi Pro League club have given up on persuading the Portugual international to stay at the club, having presented numerous contract offers.
Al Hilal are said to be prepared to listen to offers in the region of £15million for the former Wolves midfielder, with clubs in the Premier League and abroad monitoring the situation.
United are rumoured to have made an informal call, but haven’t advanced anything at this stage with regards to the 28-year-old.
