‘Do not strategy’ warning as tried assassin serving 23 years escapes jail

Kieran Cameron, 43, was reported missing from HMP Thorn Cross at 8.20pm on Tuesday, January 6 – he is currently serving a 23-year sentence for attempted murder in Dorset in 2016

A man serving time for attempted murder has gone on the run from prison. Kieran Cameron, 43, was reported missing from HMP Thorn Cross at 8.20pm on Tuesday, January 6.

He’s currently doing a 23-year stretch for an attempted murder in Dorset back in 2016. Portsmouth Crown Court heard how Cameron and accomplice Michael O’Rourke knifed a 22 year old lad from Poole about 10 times.

The court was informed that both Cameron and O’Rourke, formerly of Weldon Street in Walton, were under threat from a rival gang. They plotted to kill the victim, who they knew, to pin the blame on their adversaries.

Police reported that the victim sustained 10 stab wounds to his stomach, neck and back of the head during the February 2016 assault. Detective Sergeant Jamie Halford, of Bournemouth CID, said at the time: “I am satisfied with the sentence handed down by the courts.

“Violent knife-related crime is completely unacceptable and this case shows that police and the courts will investigate and come down heavily on anyone carrying out such vicious attacks.”

“This was a pre-planned assault by O’Rourke and Cameron that could have so easily led to the death of a young man.

“I would like to pay tribute to the quick thinking of members of the public who came to the victim’s aid and the excellent medical staff at Poole Hospital who treated him.”

Cheshire Police issued a plea today, Wednesday January 7, asking for the public’s assistance in locating Cameron.

Cameron is described as a white male, about 5ft 6in tall, of medium build, with significantly receding hair and a ginger and grey beard. He’s known to have strong connections to Liverpool, Manchester, and Dorset.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Henderson, from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit at Cheshire Police said: “We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Kieran Cameron, who is unlawfully at large after leaving HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington.

“If you see him, do not approach him, call 999 immediately.

“If you have any information as to where Cameron may be, please call 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML 2247029.”

The news comes after we reported how a murderer and another inmate who scarpered from a prison on New Year’s Day have been arrested.

Washbourne was nicked at around 1.30am by Avon and Somerset Police in the heart of Bristol city centre. Armstrong has also been arrested on suspicion of robbery, in connection with an incident in a village near Leyhill, which happened at around 6.45pm on Wednesday, December 31, the night before he absconded from HMP Leyhill.
