Biggest ever FA Cup upset as non-league Macclesfield KO holders Crystal Palace

Macclesfield FC have completed a stunning FA Cup upset over Crystal Palace and knocked the holders out in the third round of the competition.

The Silkmen’s 2-1 win marks the competition’s biggest upset, with 117 places separating the sides in the football pyramid. Goals from Paul Dawson and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts produced a historic occasion at Moss Rose, with Oliver Glasner’s side struggling to respond on either side of half-time.

The likes of England internationals Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton started for the Premier League team. It wasn’t until the 90th minute that Palace were able to put Macclesfield under pressure. The tension ratcheted up after Yeremy Pino scored a late free kick.

That was released after more than seven minutes of stoppage time as supporters flooded the pitch and lifted Macclesfield’s stars upon their shoulders.
