Liam Gallagher admits Oasis have put their reunion on maintain for the World Cup
Wonderwall rocker Liam Gallagher, a huge football fan himself, said Oasis does not want gigs to clash with the summer soccer showpiece in the US, Canada and Mexico
Liam Gallagher has admitted Oasis have put their reunion on hold for the World Cup.
The Wonderwall rocker said the band will not be returning to the stage this year following their record-breaking 41-gig comeback world tour as it would clash with the summer soccer showpiece in the US, Canada and Mexico. But he said they will be back on the road in 2027.
Liam told fans he will start preparing for more shows as soon as the World Cup is ‘out the way’. After the tournament finishes in July the singer said ‘it’s f****** on’. He said then it would be ‘time to batten down the hatches and get this sexy ass back in to shape’.
The superstar revealed his plans in an X chat with fans.
One tweeted: “Liam how about oasis 27 would you be up for that x.”
Liam replied: “As soon as we get the WC out the way it’s f****** on Rkid time to batten down the hatches and get this sexy ass back in to shape.”
He doubled down on previous messages stating the band had no plans to play any further gigs in 2026. He said: “There’s nothing going on with Oasis – year off Rasta. You have been informed on this a million times are you trying to play silly b****** with me.”
Liam, 53, and brother Noel, 58, reunited on stage in Cardiff, Wales, on July 4 for the first time in 16 years since their bust-up appeared to split up the band. Fears old tensions could resurface proved misplaced and a global clamour for tickets led to the tour being repeatedly extended.
It included five nights in the Gallaghers’ home city of Manchester, seven shows at Wembley Stadium in London and performances in North and South America, Australia, Japan and South Korea. The band performed the same setlist comprising 23 of their biggest hits each night. Fans immediately begged them for more concerts.
But the band’s management company suggested they would be taking a break after the curtain came down on the tour in São Paulo on November 23. “There will now be a pause for a period of reflection,” it said in a statement.
Liam messaged previously the only thing ‘going on’ in 2026 will be the World Cup. Fans welcomed his new announcement. One said: “Still getting over the adrenaline from 2025. We waited all these years once, we can wait again! Oasis.”
Another wrote: “Sounds good to me, I’ve got enough stuff going on this year anyway, 2027 sounds perfect for new gigs.”
“Glasto and Knebworth then in 2027?,” asked another. One more wrote: “Definitely Definitely.”
But one said: “Still don’t believe there’s nothing going on.”
Several major artists have adjusted touring schedules to avoid clashing with the football tournament.
One top promoter said: “With Oasis there is possibly an audience cross-over. Many who want to watch the band will probably also be glued to the football. Even if there isn’t a direct link why take the risk if you schedule separately?”
