Eugenie Bouchard exhibits tennis followers what they’re lacking with skimpy thong snaps

Dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest tennis star’, Eugenie Bouchard has delighted her followers by reliving some racy pictures and one “very bad decision”

She may have retired but Eugenie Bouchard is still capable of wowing her legion of followers.

Dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest tennis star’, Bouchard quit the sport following a farewell appearance in her hometown of Montreal at the National Bank Open last year. Although she never quite lived up to her early promise, the 31-year-old still boasted a respectable career, making the Wimbledon final in 2014 and the last four of the Australian Open and French Open in the same year.

Bouchard has also earned fame away from the court thanks to her racy social media snaps. In 2024 she signed a contract with IMG Models “to expand her presence in the fashion industry.”

Her Instagram feed is especially popular and she recently treated her 2.3million followers to a reel of eye-popping pictures from a decade ago. It included her cover shoot for Sports Illustrated and various other images of her in bikinis and thongs, plus selfies with the then Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and singing legend Celine Dion.

Bouchard wrote: “2016: lots of bikinis, selfies, & one very bad decision (swipe to end).” The “bad decision” refers to a bold haircut that she now regrets.

While her daring social media activity has not always sat well with tennis purists, Bouchard has no regrets about marketing herself to a wider audience.

She told podcaster Valeria Lipovetsky: “Tennis first of all is a great sport for that sex appeal side. I mean we’re wearing short skirts, we’re wearing tank tops. It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that.

“Right away I was able to get great marketing deals off the court. Being asked to be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition a few times. Exploring that path was definitely on my to-do list, it’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s great.

“Why keep myself in a box? Why not try to become bigger, or better, or transcend tennis, or explore other fields? Tennis is the only thing I know, but it can’t be the only thing I’ll ever do in my life.

“So I found it very interesting to be in magazines or do fashion stuff and see that I really enjoyed these things as well.”

She now has extra time to focus on her modelling and social media work after retiring amid emotional scenes in Montreal. She said: “I’ve always had a feeling I would end my career here. Montreal is where I was born and raised, so it just feels right.

“An emotional moment. I think I just wanted a moment like this because my career deserved a moment like this. I really think I got it tonight, and I’m so grateful for that.”
