‘Kind and vibrant’ teen stabbed to loss of life in Guildford park named as tributes pour in

Gabriel Guembes, also known as Luis, 15 was pronounced dead after being attacked in woodland off Lido Road in Stoke Park, Guildford earlier this week – he was described as an ‘amazing soul’

Tributes have been paid to a “wonderful” tennager who was stabbed to death in a park. Surrey Police rushed to woodland off Lido Road in Stoke Park at 6.10pm on Monday following reports of a stabbing incident.

Despite valiant efforts from officers, paramedics, and bystanders, the 15-year-old was declared dead at the scene. The youngster has now been identified on a tribute page as Gabriel Guembes, also known as Luis.

Gabriel had relocated to the UK from Lima as a child and is thought to have been a pupil at All Hallows school in Farnham, reports Surrey Live. Heartbroken loved ones described him as “an amazing son and an incredible young soul.” An online fundraiser has since been set up to support the family.

The page states: “On the late afternoon of January 19th, Gabriel’s life was tragically taken after he was stabbed near a woodland area in Stoke Park, in Guildford. He was pronounced dead at the scene. This unimaginable loss is currently under investigation and remains in the hands of Surrey Police.

“Gabriel was an amazing son and an incredible young soul. He was kind, bright, driven, and full of promise. A devoted student, a passionate soccer player, and a loving son, Gabriel had a smile that could light up a room and a heart that touched everyone he met. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Gabriel moved to London from Lima, Peru, with his mother at a young age in search of hope, opportunity, and a better future.”

The GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral costs and help alleviate the financial strain on Gabriel’s grieving family. The page reads: “Any donation, share, or prayer means more than words can express.

“Your kindness and compassion will help carry this family through the darkest days of their lives. Thank you for standing with the Guembes family and for helping keep Gabriel’s beautiful spirit alive.”

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, with Guildford MP Zöe Franklin telling SurreyLive: “You just don’t expect this sort of thing to happen in Guildford and just so tragic and devastating that this young person has lost their life and there is a family who will never have their young person come home, my heart just goes out to all of the family and all of the friends.”

So far, over £5,000 has been collected.

In addition to the online tribute, floral tributes have been laid in Stoke Park in memory of Gabriel.
