Doomsday Clock WATCH LIVE: Scientists reveal how shut humanity is to Armageddon
Humanity will learn just how close we are to the brink of global apocalypse later today as the Doomsday Clock is revealed.
The hands are due to be updated at 3pm UK time, by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists in Washington D.C.
The clock shows how close we are to annihilation, with midnight representing the end of humanity as we know it. The hands of the clock creep closer to midnight as our species edges towards disaster.
Where is the Doomsday Clock now?
Right now the Doomsday Clock stands at 89 seconds to midnight.
When scientists made the adjustment last year, it represented the closest mankind had ever been to midnight.
The furthest we have ever been from midnight was at the end of the Cold War in 1991. When the US and the Soviet Union signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty which cut the number of nukes each side had, the hands were set back to 17 minutes to midnight.
