UK ally and NATO nation getting ready for ‘struggle in two years’ as WW3 fears develop
A German military commander has warned the nation must prepare for the possibility of Russia launching a full-scale aggressive war against NATO within just two to three years
Concerns about a potential third World War have escalated in recent years as multiple conflicts and mounting global tensions take hold. Russia’s assault on Ukraine in 2022 has prompted substantial reactions from the international community, including NATO.
Coupled with the continuing Middle East crisis and Trump’s designs on Greenland, worries about a possible World War III have intensified.
The head of Germany’s armed forces support command is readying the country to cope with enormous numbers of injured troops within merely two to three years. These preparations follow growing international anxiety over the prospect of Russia initiating a comprehensive aggressive conflict against NATO.
He cautioned that German medical facilities might encounter capacity pressures unseen since the COVID-19 crisis. During a discussion with The Times, he detailed his contingency plans.
He declared: “Whereas in Afghanistan I had a regrettably high but manageable number of wounded, I now have to plan for the possibility of a thousand injured personnel a day. The closer you look at it, the more complex it becomes and the harder it is to imagine.”, reports the Express US.
Germany’s armed forces consist of 55,000 personnel, positioning it amongst Europe’s most substantial military contingents. He outlined the duties he would shoulder if Russia were to attack NATO.
He remarked: “What worries me … at the moment is the hybrid side, the covert side: sabotage, sleeper cells, some kind of targeted attacks. I can’t rule out the use of long-range missiles. But I think the hybrid threat is very high.
“It’s important for us to maintain Germany as a logistics hub and manage the supply lines for as long as possible as smoothly as possible, meaning that if one route fails we will have the option of using others instead. It has to be said quite clearly that without civilian support within a total defence concept we wouldn’t be capable of defending ourselves,” he continued.
Recent developments have seen a chilling threat against Europe emerge from a key Vladimir Putin spokesman. Appearing on Russian state broadcaster, he implied that disputes over Greenland might lead to a Russia-US alliance, with Ukraine firmly in their sights.
He declared: “Zelensky thought he’d have a nice meeting in Davos, but Trump clearly demonstrated that Zelensky is of no interest to him […] Zelensky was told, either you agree to these conditions, or goodbye. The banter is over. Zelensky made his choice; he is with Europe.
“We will be fighting [Europe] very differently. They no longer have an American [nuclear] umbrella. More than that, an example of Greenland gives Ukrainians an opportunity to figure out what happens next.”
In a menacing final comment, he asserted that Russia can “choose to strike any part of Europe” and that Americans “won’t retaliate”.
“Trump says, ‘Greenland has this opportunity, they may face aggression’,” he stated.
“It may seem like you have a treaty with Denmark, go ahead and fulfil your obligations, but Trump says, ‘Why would we defend them, if they aren’t a part of us?’. Ukraine will never be a part of America. None of the European countries will ever be America.”
Meanwhile, in Germany, civilians are observing military preparedness exercises up close.
This was demonstrated during Red Storm Bravo in Hamburg last September, where troops practised manoeuvring under simulated Russian drone attacks.
Additionally, military staff are set to carry out airborne medical evacuation training from Lithuania during February and March of this year.
