Aldi trying to find first ‘rooster nugget tester’ – methods to apply

People who are obsessed with chicken nuggets should consider putting their names forward

Aldi is on the hunt for the ‘ultimate connoisseur’ of all things chicken to become the supermarket’s first-ever Nugget Taster. The supermarket’s search comes as the nation’s love for nuggets reportedly reaches an all-time high.

People who live and breathe for the humble nugget can apply for the new ‘job’ on offer with the supermarket, which comes with an unrivalled benefit. The successful applicant won’t be paid in cash – but will get a selection of Aldi’s best-selling nuggets for free.

This includes the supermarket’s popular Share the Love ‘Love Nuggets’ with Date Ketchup (£2.99, 350g), which returns to stores from February 10 as part of the Valentine’s Day range. Priced at just £2.99, the heart-shaped bites have already proven a fan favourite, with shoppers previously sharing their excitement on Facebook groups, New Foods UK and Snack Reviews.

On top of the new nuggets, the newest Aldi ’employee’ will get some of the store’s classics to try and review as well. These include the Oakhurst Chicken Nuggets with Dips (£1.79, 300g), Roosters Chicken Nuggets in Breadcrumbs (£1.65, 450g) and Tempura Chicken Nuggets (£3.99, 540g).

All the supermarket is asking for in return is a set of reviews rating the nuggets on their taste, texture, and the crispiness of their coating. This job is very important for the future of chicken nuggets, as it will help guide the supermarket’s Buying Team on future products.

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “The nation’s love for chicken nuggets is undeniable and we’re seeing a huge appetite for new and exciting flavours. Our shoppers are our most important critics, so launching the role of an official Nugget Taster is the perfect way to ensure our products deliver the quality, taste, and price they deserve.”

How to apply

To be in with a chance of landing this tasty job, all candidates need to do is send a video application to [email protected]. In your video, it must include the following details:

  • Full name
  • Age and location
  • Social media handles
  • Why do they love Aldi’s nuggets
  • Why should they be Aldi’s first-ever Nugget Taster

This isn’t the first time the supermarket has recruited the public to help with its product testing. Previously, Aldi launched a hunt for a crisp tester who would have the privilege of gorging on a selection of savoury snacks for free.

NHS worker George Critchley, from Sheffield, was the lucky person who beat hundreds of hopeful applicants to become Aldi’s first ever Crisp Taster. The 38-year-old snack fanatic used a set of specific skills to help guide the future range.

George caught the judges’ attention after confessing that the tables at his wedding were named after different types of crisps, including Wotsits for friends with funny interests and Discos for their dancing friends.

In other Aldi news, the supermarket chain has announced plans to open 40 new stores in the UK this year. The budget supermarket is to invest £370 million this year in opening new sites in locations including Southam in Warwickshire, Hastings in East Sussex, and Amersham in Buckinghamshire.
