Schoolboy, 15, ‘murdered’ in a Surrey park died from stab wound to his stomach, inquest hears

A schoolboy was ‘murdered’ in a Surrey park and died from a stab wound to the back of his abdomen, an inquest has heard.

Luis Gabriel Guembes Quimper was found dead in woodlands in Guildford, earlier this month.

Opening an inquest into his death today (Thursday), area coroner Simon Wickens said the boy’s provisional medical cause of death was a stab wound to the back of his abdomen.

The court heard that Luis was born in Peru and lived in Surrey.

The 15-year-old, who was a promising footballer, died on January 19 in Peacock Wood, near Lido Road in Guildford.

Surrey Police launched a murder investigation after reports of a stabbing off Lido Road.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire & Rescue Service were also at the scene but, despite the best efforts of emergency services and members of the public, he died at the scene.

Two boys, aged 15 and 16, have now been charged with murder, among other offences, in relation to Luis’s death. They cannot be named for legal reasons.

Coroner’s officer Fiona Brown said Luis’s death was confirmed at 7.17pm and that he had been identified by his mother Silvia.

A post-mortem was conducted by Dr Anna Biddlestone at the Royal Surrey County Hospital on January 21.

Mr Wickens opened and adjourned the inquest ahead of further legal proceedings.

He told HM Coroner’s Court Surrey: ‘Two persons have been charged in connection with the death of Luis, therefore upon opening this inquest it’s incumbent upon the court to suspend this inquest until the outcome of the criminal process.

‘Therefore, having opened this inquest this morning, I formally suspend this inquest until this outcome.’

Luis, who also used the named Gabriel, was a promising schoolboy footballer who attended All Hallows Catholic School in Farnham and had won trophies playing for several youth football teams.

In a social media tribute, family friend Michelle Alayon said: ‘Gabriel was an amazing son and an incredible young soul. He was kind, bright, driven, and full of promise.

‘A devoted student, a passionate soccer player, and a loving son, Gabriel had a smile that could light up a room and a heart that touched everyone he met.

‘He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.’

She added: ‘Gabriel moved to London from Lima, Peru, with his mother at a young age in search of hope, opportunity, and a better future.’

Ms Alayon set up a GoFundMe page to support Luis’s family, asking well-wishers for help.

She wrote: ‘We are humbly asking for the support of our community to help cover funeral expenses and help ease the overwhelming financial burden facing this family during a time of profound sorrow.’

Tributes have also been left to Luis by his friends on social media.
