Football star killed as brother ‘slashes him with damaged bottle’ in road battle

A footballer has died after his brother allegedly slashed him with a broken bottle during a vicious street fight.

Lucas Ignacio Pires is believed to have got into an altercation with one of his siblings. The victim reportedly suffered a devastating cut on his right forearm which severed an artery, leading to significant blood loss.

The 29-year-old striker – who previously turned out for Argentine second division side Club Almirante Brown – was rushed to hospital for emergency care. However, despite the efforts of medics he tragically lost his life shortly afterwards, sparking a murder investigation and police manhunt for his killer.

The fight broke out in the suburb of Rafael Castillo in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires at around 8.30pm on Friday night (February 6).

After his death was confirmed by the President Nestor Kirchner Hospital, the police launched a manhunt to find the suspect. The authorities suspect he was fatally wounded by one of his brothers, who both have criminal records.

Police are reviewing CCTV images in the area, which reportedly filmed the whole sequence of events.

Lucas spent a spell playing in Primera B Nacional with the Buenos Aires team Club Almirante Brown, as reported by NeedToKnow. He then continued his career in the lower leagues.

His former club in a statement: “Club Almirante Brown regrets the passing of Lucas Pires, a former player of our club. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this time of grief.”

A former team-mate added: “My deepest condolences to the family. I was lucky enough to play with him in the youth leagues, and it was wonderful to watch him play.

“A handsome young man who took care of the ball like no other. Rest in peace, Luquitas.”

One of his brothers and several cousins also played for Almirante Brown. The police investigation into Lucas’ death is ongoing.
