Brit mum arrested after child assessments optimistic for cocaine as cops referred to as to Marbella seaside

A British woman and her husband have been arrested in Spain after their baby tested positive for cocaine. The infant, who showed signs of malnutrition, was located with his parents in a tent in front of Cabopino beach in Marbella.

Cocaine was reportedly found in the baby’s blood when a urine test was carried out at the Costa del Sol Hospital, where he was admitted.

The police intervention began shortly after 9am on Sunday (February 8) when a person telephoned the 092 room of the Marbella Local Police to alert that a couple was making a bonfire in the dunes of Cabopino.

Officers went to the scene and located the campfire, which was under a large tree. Next to it was a car – without insurance – and a tent. Police found all three inside the tent.

Local police identified the child’s mother, 25-years-old and born in the United Kingdom, and the father, 43 years old and of Spanish nationality. With them was the baby, who is eight months old.

Officers noticed that the child showed signs of malnutrition, in addition to the conditions in which he was inside the tent and in the middle of winter.

They decided to transfer the baby with his parents to the Las Albarizas health centre, where he was examined by the paediatricians on duty, who chose to refer him to the Costa del Sol Hospital.

Once in the emergency room, the doctors carried out several tests on the child to check if he was well fed.

He was reportedly found underweight for his age and resulted in him being admitted to the paediatric unit pending the results.

The investigation was then passed into the hands of the National Police Corps. As confirmed by Spanish newspaper SUR, the presence of cocaine in the child’s body was detected in the urine test, which led to the immediate arrest of his parents.

The agents handling the case were able to verify that the mother had requested several appointments in recent months at the paediatric unit of the Marbella hospital, although it seems that she had not attended them.

Yesterday (February 10), the parents remained at the National Police station in Marbella waiting to be handed over to the judicial authority.
