Prince William and Kate Middleton’s bed room antics revealed in uncommon transfer
Prince William and Kate Middleton have called several royal residences their own since getting married in 2011, with their ground floor bedroom at Kensington Palace revealing unconventional living arrangements
The Princess of Wales leads a somewhat unconventional life at Kensington Palace. While the Prince and Princess of Wales typically keep their domestic affairs private, it’s known that their living arrangements in the iconic London residence are far from ordinary.
Unlike most couples who sleep in an upstairs bedroom, a floor plan of their home in Apartment 1A reveals that their bedrooms are located elsewhere. Intriguingly, the main bedroom they previously occupied was situated on the ground floor of Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.
This apartment, once the abode of Princess Margaret, is a grand affair with 20 rooms spread over four floors, its own lift, gym, and nine staff quarters, reports the Mirror.
The late Royal author Christopher Warwick shed some light on why these Royal residences at Kensington Palace are referred to as ‘apartments’ during a stint on True Royalty’s Royal Beat.
He clarified: “All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for an apartment.
“They are not. If you think of Kensington Palace in a way, it is built around three courtyards. If you kind of think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses. Because they are all joined, but separate houses.”
The pair, who have weathered a tough time following the Princess’s cancer diagnosis and her father-in-law King Charles’ health issues, have access to Anmer Hall in Norfolk but moved to the eight-bedroom Forest Hall in Windsor last year. Before that, they resided at Adelaide Cottage, a more humble abode also located in Windsor.
Tucked away within the Crown Estate’s private 655-acre Royal park, this historic home was constructed in 1831 as a hideaway for Queen Adelaide, wife of King William IV, and has a rich and scandalous history.
Adelaide Cottage was a favourite getaway of Queen Victoria, who often took breakfast there. Another notable former resident was Group Captain Peter Townsend, famously romantically involved with Princess Margaret.
Townsend, an ex-RAF pilot and equerry to King George VI, had a widely publicised love affair with Princess Margaret. Their relationship sparked a lot of controversy as Peter was a divorcee who was 16 years her senior.
In 2015, Adelaide Cottage underwent significant refurbishment and now boasts some incredibly opulent interior design. Reports suggest the main bedroom features a ceiling adorned with gilded dolphins and intricate rope detailing.
After Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot in 2018, there were whispers that the cottage might become their new Windsor pad. The couple were thought to appreciate the cottage’s privacy and its handy proximity to London.
